Synopsis :

A soldier is summoned to the North Pole, days before the year changes, told to fix the great Clock for a celebration. He has no idea what to do. A girl, hunted for the crime of being born, almost dies out on the ice. She is rescued by the last polar bear left alive. A library waits for them both, a library built over a span of a hundred years, forgotten in the basement of an ice shack. The world hasn’t known hunger or sickness in hundreds of years. It has also forgotten love and beauty. The year is 2524. Inspired by the short stories of Ray Bradbury, this futuristic novel is set in a world where Christmas -among other things- is obsolete and a Clock is what keeps the fragile balance of peace. Written in three installments, this is the breathtaking and sensual story of how two unlikely people change the world, and each other, one book at a time. Immerse yourself into the icy cold world of this scorching hot new novel.

Review :

So you say there is no Father Christmas You say there is no Santa Claus Reindeer cannot fly, it’s all a grown-up lie…

It’s a song older than time itself -older even than him; what made it suddenly pop into his head?

The story speaks of the time when man had evolved far beyond his own expectations, where a perfect human can be formed in tubes and not through being born – a child is not given birth to; it is created. The child’s IQ, abilities, intelligence all are inputted into it, thus a desired body and mind are formed. To maintain health, energy, stress-free all that was needed was pill – different colours of pills, each carrying a significant characteristic.

Felix was one of those boys who came out alive from the Box, the punishment zone formed by the Chairman where he was to be executed at the age of 18 but was somehow saved, all thanks to the Clockmaster. After getting another chance to live, Felix decided upon obeying the system to every word and soon after joining Military School he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Everyone was proud of his results and obedience.

However, when he got the message from the Clockmaster, he couldn’t help but travel all the way to a place where he was not to be only to find the old man’s home empty. More trouble poured down on him when the person he saved from dying was actually a real woman. He has never seen one before, the one who took care of him and some other boys when they were children was a machine just helping them out with remembering daily schedules.

Moreover when the girl tells him her name, everything stops making sense to him, starting with the Clockmaster telling him an amusing secret, something that has never before been heard of. And then there was the red haired girl who knew how to use old timer tools and was accustomed to a little of their lifestyle while he knew nothing of them. They look through the old man’s home to look for the clock he had asked Felix to fix before the beginning the new year – 2525. Soon, they discover a library in the basement of what Felix called ice shack (the old man’s home). But what do they find there? And why are there book here still? They were meant to be destroyed by now then why? What secrets do they hold?

When I first received the e-book from M.C.Frank I found it very hard to read it through. Well, I get headaches when trying to read long digital writing. I had put down the idea of reading it at that time. And I feel so angry for having wasted such long time and not reading it cause, this book is so very interesting. Like, I don’t even know why I didn’t give it another time then. Last night I picked up the book and started reading it afresh. And though I am having a headache at the moment, the book was worth it all. To know the answers to the above mentioned questions and to know who the girl is, pick up the series and enjoy. It’s a mixture of science, romance, thrill, excitement and survival tactics.
