How well do we really know the people we love?
Lucy Airgho’s first encounter with Greg Millar is far from promising, but she soon realises he possesses a charm that is impossible to resist. Just eight whirlwind weeks after their first meeting, level-headed career girl Lucy is seriously considering his pleas to marry him and asking herself if she could really be stepmother material.
But before Lucy can make a final decision about becoming a part of Greg’s world, events plunge her right into it. On holiday in the South of France, things start to unravel. Her future stepchildren won’t accept her, the interfering nanny resents her, and they’re stuck in a heat wave that won’t let up.
And then there’s Greg. His behaviour becomes increasingly bizarre and Lucy begins to wonder whether his larger-than-life personality hides something darker – and whether she knows him at all.
I completely fell in love with all the characters.
Lucy – My, my! She is such strong yet weak in some sense. She felt weak having lost her fiance right before marriage yet she was strong enough to fight through it becoming successful in life. She fell deeply in love with Greg yet hesitated in some point feeling she might be doing injustice to her dead fiance. She felt weak. Yet she was strong enough to be at last with Greg taking in all the hatred of Greg’s daughter and unknown treachery of Hilary.
Greg – lost his father at a tender age and took over all responsibilities on his own shoulders becoming a hero in his lil brother, Rob’s eye. He become also a famous author & a good father.
It’s amazing how in each character whether he/she turns out to be bad, always turns out to have a reason to behave like that.
First, Hilary – she used to be the nanny of Rachael and Tony for a long time. Having a bad past with no child and broken marriage she falls in love with the children thinking of them as her own and with Greg. When she finds Lucy entering into the family she becomes jealous of her. It is a completely normal human nature. She finds all these years of care and love being wasted upon the arrival of Lucy and turns Rachel against her telling lies. She turns the family’s life inside down. When I read the book at some point I hated Hilary very much yet at some point felt sorry for her.
Ben & Ruth – Catherine ( Greg’s dead wife)’s parents. They love their grandchildren. In no possible way can it be denied but the way they treated Greg was something that made me hate them. Though they were very much expected to behave that way upon the lose of their only daughter.
This constant contrast between being good & bad, being reasonable & unreasonable was something really thrilling.
I left out Rachel, Tony & Rob cause they should be found while reading the book.
Aimee Alexander is without doubt an absolutely awesome author. In no way can I imagine the story being any more perfect.
